Seasons: One Minuet Film

The final version of my one minuet film. Not as good as I would have liked. I decided to shoot mainly from the same angle,  but now after making the film, if I had time, I would love to remake it using a variety of different camera angles. But I’m happy with it as a small experiment with stop frame animation:

Materials

I tried all sorts of materials for the leaves and grass and snow etc. Ended up using tissue paper, actual leaves, sugar, candles, barley, coloured paper, foam board etc:

Snow tryout

Trying various ways of animating snow, none of which really worked anything like I was hoping!! Using icing sugar, oats, rice, flour and barley:

One minuet film; beginnings and making the set

I started of with the location of just a bench, I originally wanted to create an idea of the space at a different time, for example projecting a film of the bench on a rainy day onto the same bench at night. But this developed into a huge piece (see sketchbook for Ideas) that maybe I could do another time and I progressed to doing one of my favourite things: stop-frame animation! All i really needed was the bench and lamppost, I decided to use foam board as its much more sturdy:

Cath Kidston Animation

Here is the Cath Kidston animation I made collaboratively with Shane Wilson and Jenny Wiscombe for the Eat Big Fish company (a brand consultancy). It is for a section of their website called fishfood, which is an online programme to help instill challenger thinking and behaviour in organisations. We were given a script about Cath Kidston to animate, and had a meeting with a representative of the Eat Big Fish company, liv, and showed her a story board of what we would do. She was happy with it so we went ahead to do a stop motion animation:
